TSCI IS THE SEVEN ASPECTS OF THE NEW ROLE FOR SCHOOL COUNSELORS:

Advocacy- The School Counselor must advocate for student s in order to address their academic, career, and personal/social development.


Leadership- The School Counselor will assist in promoting, planning and implementing prevention programs, career activities, and social/personal management and decision-making activities.
Technology- The School Counselor will use computers, computer software and the Internet in addressing the needs of the students and data collection.


Multicultural & Diversity Skills- The School Counselor address the needs of the school community and the students regardless of race, sex, religion, economic status, or sexual orientation.


Teaming & Collaboration- The School Counselor collaborate with the school community as a whole to promote a positive educational support system.
Counseling and Coordination- The School Counselor provide brief counseling and coordinate with students, families, and staff to improve achievement.


Assessment & Use of Data- The School Counselor will assess and interpret student needs, recognizing differences in cultures, language, values and backgrounds. Also, establish and assess measurable goals for student outcomes from counseling programs, activities, interventions, and experiences. The School Counselor will also assess building barriers that impede learning inclusion, and/or academic success of all students and interpret student data for use in planning for change.
